Our name, Spend Yourself, comes from Isaiah 58:10, “and if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.” For us, this is an expression of our following Jesus.

Welcome to Columbia’s Spend Yourself® Hunger Relief & Development Ministry

Since 2008, we’ve dedicated ourselves to making a difference in our local community at Falls Church as well as across the world in countries like Haiti, Guatemala and Zambia.  We’re led by three guiding principles that drive all the work we do:

  1. Focused: Doing it right rather than quick
  2. Transformative: Outcome-based input
  3. Just: Our best for the other’s good

It is a joy to meet new people, make friends with others who serve, and see how God is working in our community. When you give to Spend Yourself you are not giving a handout, you are giving a hand up. You are helping give people the tools they need to change their futures. If you’re ready to get involved, we need you! Whether you are sharing your time, resources or money, there’s a place for you.

Our goal is to extend the love of Jesus by helping those with food insecurity, building relationships in a warm and welcoming environment.

Through the generosity of our church family, Columbia’s Food Pantry and Gardens provided food to hungry people in our community for over 20 years.

Columbia is in an exciting season of transition in how we serve our local community. Stay tuned for updates on new ways to get involved.

Zambia

Serve Zambia

With Columbia’s help and World Vision’s guidance, the community of Muchila will experience food security, clean water, sanitation/hygiene, and economic development, which will improve life for all residents.

Our partnership will help provide wells, latrines, hygiene training, agricultural enhancement, and economic development, especially in the area of women-owned businesses.

Haiti

Serve Haiti

The goal for any community is to become self-sustaining, self-sufficient and self-supporting. We partner with two communities, Savane Plate and La Begue, and they have become inspiring models, as measures of food security, clean water, sanitation/hygiene, and economic development have changed their communities dramatically. They affirm that not only has their community changed; so has their way of thinking. “Over the years we have learned from this partnership that God has given us the ability to change our own situation and transform our community.” They know they serve a “can-do” Lord; now they are learning just what it means to be a “can-do” people.

Our partnerships in Haiti have allowed us to help fund wells, latrines, goats, chickens, oxen, plows, home drinking water filtration systems, farming tools, an eight acre lake for irrigation and fish farming, two sugar mills, and a tool depot.
